IMPORTANT / IN-PERSON APPLICATION

VISA CATEGORY INFORMATION

An individual who is a foreign journalist of newspapers/magazines/TV or radio networks/news agencies/representatives of print, electronics or satellite media/freelance journalist want to visit Bangladesh for the purpose of collecting information/news or official duty, he/she is eligible to apply for Journalist visa.

VISA VALIDITY

– 1 month, single entry
– 1 month, double entry
– 1 month, multiple entry

EXTENSION UP TO THREE (3) YEARS CAN BE OBTAINED FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF IMMIGRATION AND PASSPORT (DIP) IN BANGLADESH.

All visa issuance is subject to consular discretion.

APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENT (IN-PERSON)

Please note that the High Commission of Bangladesh only accepts visa applications via an appointment system. YOU MUST ATTEND THE APPOINTMENT IN-PERSON YOURSELF TO FILE THE APPLICATION.

CONSULAR FEES PAYMENT

You must also make payment of the consular fees yourself (see processing times section below for full pricing structure).

Payment may only be made at the High Commission of Bangladesh via Debit/Credit card, Postal order or Bank draft (both addressed to Bangladesh High Commission, London).

RETURN DELIVERY

The High Commission of Bangladesh does seem to offer a return mail service for your endorsed passport and supporting documentation. Should you wish to explore this option, we would advise to take extra self addressed written prepaid envelope, to your appointment.

IT IS HOWEVER ADVISABLE WHERE POSSIBLE, GIVEN THE SENSITIVE NATURE OF THE DOCUMENTS AND TO AVOID ANY MAIL BEING LOST, TO ALWAYS COLLECT ALL ENDORSED PASSPORTS.

PASSPORT

Original passport. This must:

be valid for at least six months beyond your intended departure date
have at least two blank visa pages

PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPHS

Two original recent 45mm x 35mm colour photographs. These must:

be taken within the last month
be taken against a plain light background and printed on photographic paper
show full frontal face, have a neutral expression and your mouth closed
have eyes open and free from reflection or glare from glasses
not have hair in front of face or have a head covering (unless it’s for religious or medical reasons)

LETTER OF INTRODUCTION

Signed and completed original letter of support from from your media organisation in the UK requesting the visa.

This must be signed by a member of your HR, or a member of your management team. If the latter, this person must be at least a manager grade and/or at least the same grade as yourself, and must be aware of your trip.

Please see template attached: Bangladesh – Business support letter (JOURNALIST). Please do amend / provide as much detail as possible. Alternatively, the letter must include the following information:

Addressed to the “High Commission of Bangladesh in London”
Letter needs to be on home employer headed paper and dated within the last month
Letter need to be signed by authorised signatory of the home employer
Purpose of visit – please provide as much detail as possible
Applicant’s name and nationality
Start date of employment and job title
Passport number and DOB
Start & Expiry date of the passport
Dates of travel to Bangladesh
Validity of visa applied for
A guarantee to meet maintenance expenses (if applicable)

INVITATION LETTER

Clear colour copy of signed and completed invite letter from your inviting media organisation in Bangladesh requesting the visa.

Please see template attached: Bangladesh – Invite letter (JOURNALIST). Please do amend / provide as much detail as possible. Alternatively, the letter must include the following information:

Addressed to the “High Commission of Bangladesh in London”
Letter needs to be on inviting company headed paper and dated within the last month
Letter need to be signed by authorised signatory of the inviting company
Purpose of visit – please provide as much detail as possible
Applicant’s name and nationality
Passport number and DOB
Start & Expiry date of the passport

FF-I / FF-II FORM AND EQUIPMENT LIST

Signed and fully completed original FF-I / FF-II form. Please see attached: Bangladesh – FF-I / FF-II form.

PLEASE ALSO PROVIDE A CLEAR LIST OF EQUIPMENT THAT WILL BE TAKEN TO BANGLADESH.

DECLARATION LETTER

Signed and completed original declaration letter with the full description of the purpose of shooting (story line), shooting spot and draft shooting schedule.

THIS MAY BE PROVIDED BY YOURSELF OR YOUR CURRENT UK MEDIA HOUSE / HOME EMPLOYER.

VISA CHECKLIST

AUTHORISATION LETTER

Signed, dated and fully completed original original authorisation letter, allowing Global Visas to submit and collect your application.

PROOF OF UK RESIDENCE (IMMIGRATION)

Valid proof of UK residence. This must be presented as your valid original UK residency visa in your passport / in the form of a valid original UK Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card.

This must be valid for at least three months beyond your requested visa validity.

PROCESSING TIMES / FEES

As a reminder, Consular fees will not be charged and payment must be made by the applicant directly to the Embassy / Consulate.

Do also be aware that consular fees are non-refundable once the application has been submitted; including if the application is then rejected or if you are issued a different visa validity to that requested.

APPLICATION PREPARATION

Be proactive. Review the whole application process and makes notes on anything you require clarity on. By addressing this with your visa agent will make the process easier and more efficient.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

Be mindful that each document has its own requirements (i.e. passport validity / photo sizes / form signing / originals / information required for support letters etc). It is important that each requirement is adhered to.

DATA ACCURACY

Personal information must be accurate and consistent across all your documentation. Passport information, employment details, travel dates, postal addresses, points of contact etc. You must paint a consistent and accurate picture of your trip.

APPLICATION TIMESCALE

Always remember timescales. Some documents may take longer to obtain (i.e. documents from abroad / from official govt bodies / may require official certification or legalisation). Taking this into consideration along with processing times is very important.

PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Taking a practical approach to immigration is very important. Being considerate of consular closures, travel plans, processing times, delivery timeframes, receiving original supporting documents etc. You must be mindful and plan for such considerations.
