VISA VALIDITY

Varied validity. All visa issuance is subject to consular discretion.

Generally it is advisable to make a 6 month multiple entry visa request. Please also note that all Schengen visas allow a stay of up to 90 days in every 180 day period.

APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENT (IN-PERSON)

Please note that the Germany (VFSGlobal) Visa Application Centre only accepts visa applications via an appointment system. YOU MUST ATTEND THE APPOINTMENT IN-PERSON YOURSELF TO FILE THE APPLICATION (see also below biometric enrolment requirement).

To make an appointment, please book online (http://www.vfsglobal.com/germany/uk/schedule_an_appointment.html). You may also re-schedule / cancel the appointment using the same web link.

BIOMETRIC ENROLMENT

All Schengen visa applicants (apart from Minors under 12 years old) are required to enrol their biometric data when submitting a Schengen visa application. These biometric data will be collected using a quick, discreet and non-intrusive process that captures a facial image with a digital camera and a 10-digit fingerprint scan with a digital fingerprint scanner.

CONSULAR FEES PAYMENT

You must also make payment of the consular fees yourself (see processing times section below for full pricing structure).

All fees can be paid by cash (except in Manchester), Credit/Debit card or Postal Orders in the name of “Germany Visa Application Centre”. Cheque payments and direct bank transfers are not accepted.

RETURN DELIVERY

When applicants are unable to collect in person themselves, they may authorise another person to collect the passport on their behalf. The nominated person will need to bring an authorisation letter (see example here) signed by the applicant, the applicant’s passport photocopy with the stapled receipt and some proof of Identity (with photograph).

Alternatively, applicants unable to collect their passports within the given time slots, always can opt for Courier Service, whereby passports are returned via Courier Delivery DX at an additional fee of £14.95 per envelope/passport (see below).

APART FROM LONDON, THE COURIER DELIVERY DX FOR THE RETURN OF YOUR PASSPORT IS MANDATORY IN ALL LOCATIONS. YOU CANNOT COLLECT IN-PERSON YOUR ENDORSED PASSPORT FROM THE GERMANY (VFSGLOBAL) VISA APPLICATION CENTRES IN MANCHESTER.

COURIER SERVICE:

Using the Courier Service allows applicants to have their Passport/Travel document returned by Special Delivery; VFS uses the services of the private courier company DX to any delivery address in the United Kingdom chosen by the applicant. This can be purchased at the time of the visa application submission and you will receive a DX reference number, which can be tracked on the courier company’s website (www.dxdelivery.com) in order to obtain an update about the courier process at any given time.

ST MARTIN'S ISLAND

St. Martin's Island is a small island (area only 8 km2) in the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal, about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf peninsula, and forming the southernmost part of Bangladesh. There is a small adjoining island that is separated at high tide, called Chera Dwip. It is about 8 kilometres (5 miles) west of the northwest coast of Myanmar, at the mouth of the Naf River. The first settlement started 250 years ago by Arabian sailors who named the island 'Jazeera'. During British occupation the island was named St. Martin Island. During the First Anglo-Burmese War between the British and Burmese empires in 1824–1826, rival claims to the island were a major factor. The local names of the island are "Narikel jinjira" which means 'Coconut Island' in Bengali, and "Daruchini Dwip" which means "Cinnamon island" in Bengali. It is the only coral island in Bangladesh. It is also the southernmost part among Extreme Points of Bangladesh. Most of the island's approximately 3,700 inhabitants live primarily from fishing. The other staple crops are rice and coconut. Being very common on the island, algae are collected, dried, and exported to Myanmar. Between October and April, the fishermen from neighboring areas bring their caught fishes to the island's temporary wholesale market. However, imports of chicken, meat and other foods come in from the mainland Bangladesh and Myanmar (Burma). As the centre and the south are mainly farmland and makeshift huts, most of the permanent structures are around the far north. During the rainy season, because of the dangerous conditions on the Bay of Bengal, the inhabitants have no scope to go to the mainland (Teknaf) and their life can become dangerous. There is a hospital on the island, but in the past there has often been no doctor.
