IMPORTANT / IN-PERSON APPLICATION

VISA CATEGORY INFORMATION

As indicated on the Nepalese Department of Immigration website (http://www.nepalimmigration.gov.np/post/faqs-related-to-arrival-to-nepal), if you intend to invest and run a business in Nepal long term, you must apply for a Business Visa via the Nepalese Department of Immigration online visa portal.

ALL OTHER BUSINESS RELATED TRAVELLERS MUST OBTAIN A TOURIST VISA.

VISA VALIDITY

– 15 days, multiple entry
– 30 days, multiple entry
– 90 days, multiple entry

All visa issuance is subject to consular discretion.

IN-PERSON APPLICATION

YOU MUST ATTEND THE EMBASSY OF NEPAL IN LONDON IN-PERSON YOURSELF TO FILE THE APPLICATION OR MAKE A POSTAL APPLICATION.

Please see below for Embassy address / opening times for visa submissions. No appointment is required.

POSTAL APPLICATION

Postal applicants must enclose all original supporting documentation, a postal order or bank draft made payable to ‘Embassy of Nepal’ for the visa fee and a self addressed envelope with the (Recorded delivery) stamp.

Once the visa application is received by the Embassy, the application may take up to 2-3 working days for applications submitted within the UK and up to 2 weeks outside the UK.

NOTE: If you are applying from Iceland, Ireland or Malta, you must send a bank draft payable to the Embassy of Nepal for visa fee AND TO COVER THE POSTAGE CHARGE.

IT IS HOWEVER ADVISABLE WHERE POSSIBLE, GIVEN THE SENSITIVE NATURE OF THE DOCUMENTS AND TO AVOID ANY MAIL BEING LOST, TO FILE APPLICATIONS IN-PERSON.

CONSULAR FEES PAYMENT

You must also make payment of the consular fees yourself (see processing times section below for full pricing structure).

All fees must be paid by cash ONLY (apart from postal applications) – cards/personal cheques are not accepted.

Only once your documents have been reviewed, must you attend your appointment at the scheduled date and time with all originals, to submit your application IN-PERSON to the relevant Consulate / Embassy.

PASSPORT

Original passport. This must:

at least six months beyond your intended entry date
have at least two blank visa pages

PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPHS

Two original recent 45mm x 35mm colour photographs. These must:

be taken within the last month
be taken against a plain light background and printed on photographic paper
show full frontal face, have a neutral expression and your mouth closed
have eyes open and free from reflection or glare from glasses
not have hair in front of face or have a head covering (unless it’s for religious or medical reasons)

PROOF OF UK RESIDENCE (IMMIGRATION)

Valid proof of UK residence. This must be presented as your valid UK residency visa in your passport / in the form of a valid UK Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card. A clear colour copy is acceptable – you must provide a copy of the front and back of your UK BRP card, if applicable.

This must be valid for at least three months beyond your requested visa validity.

RED FLAGS

VISA ON ARRIVAL

The Nepalese immigration authorities do provide an option to obtain a visa on arrival, however requirements for such a request cannot be confirmed and are subject to change, without any prior notice. Furthermore, a variable fee may be applicable and visa officers are your port of arrival do have an extended right of refusal / discretion to refuse entry. You must also ensure the flight / airline provider will allow boarding without a visa; the final decision will lie with the airline.

TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS WHEN ENTERING NEPAL, IT IS HIGHLY ADVISABLE TO OBTAIN A VISA PRIOR TO TRAVEL.

As a reminder, Consular fees will not be charged and payment must be made by the applicant directly to the Embassy / Consulate.

APPLICATION PREPARATION

Be proactive. Review the whole application process and makes notes on anything you require clarity on. By addressing this with your visa agent will make the process easier and more efficient.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

Be mindful that each document has its own requirements (i.e. passport validity / photo sizes / form signing / originals / information required for support letters etc). It is important that each requirement is adhered to.

DATA ACCURACY

Personal information must be accurate and consistent across all your documentation. Passport information, employment details, travel dates, postal addresses, points of contact etc. You must paint a consistent and accurate picture of your trip.

APPLICATION TIMESCALE

Always remember timescales. Some documents may take longer to obtain (i.e. documents from abroad / from official govt bodies / may require official certification or legalisation). Taking this into consideration along with processing times is very important.

PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Taking a practical approach to immigration is very important. Being considerate of consular closures, travel plans, processing times, delivery timeframes, receiving original supporting documents etc. You must be mindful and plan for such considerations.
